The Team

Joey Merholz

Joey founded J-Cut in 2006 and is a Director/Producer.

After years of working in the entertainment industry in San Francisco, New York and Paris, he returned to SoCal where he was an early adopter of digital production. This led to many creative collaborations with like-minded innovators from which J~Cut was born.

He continues to nurture and promote the spirit of progress and innovation within the company. He's happiest working behind the camera.

Joey is also an avid surfer and musician.

Phil Noyes

A Producer/Director with over thirty years of industry experience, Phil has spent the last twelve years contributing his talent to J-Cut. Phil also manages our San Francisco office on Union St. Notable achievements include producing 1000+ episodes for PBS series like California's Gold. Beyond his prolific career, Phil's deep passion lies in vintage travel trailers, culminating in a one-hour PBS special, "Mobile America," and the authorship of books "Trailer Travel: A Visual History of Mobile America" and "Trailerama," which illuminate the captivating history of RV culture in America.

Andrea Carey

Based in Portland, Oregon, Andrea serves as our lead Project Manager and Editor. With a BFA in Film and Photography, she's been shaping the industry since 2016. Andrea's passion lies in narrative and documentary filmmaking, and her work has been showcased at film festivals. Notably, one of her documentaries earned recognition as an award winner at the 2020 FlickFair film festival. 

 

Since joining J-Cut in 2021, Andrea has been instrumental in editing and managing projects, consistently delivering captivating content.

Mel Metcalfe III

Award winning 3rd generation filmmaker, Mel Metcalfe brings a swiss army knife of skills, to create and deliver compelling content for J-Cut. With a foundation in documentary films and editing, Metcalfe’s strength is finding the story and shot for the project, from preproduction to post. 

As a Producer/Director of Photography, his talents excel on set and location, domestic and international, capturing small country towns to corporate video interviews, with specialties that include green screen, time-lapse, aerial filming and photography. Metcalfe’s credits include delivering episodic and feature length documentaries for Vice, PBS, KCET, History Channel, Warner Bros, The Sierra Club, and NBA on TNT, to name a few.

Dan Mayo

Dan is a versatile professional with a trifecta of skills as a Producer, Director, and Editor. He leads our team in the NY/East Coast region. Dan's repertoire boasts a wealth of experience in directing, producing, and editing. His portfolio encompasses an array of visually captivating projects including; music videos, corporate and commercial work, and award winning short films. His passion for pushing artistic boundaries knows no bounds, and it's this unwavering commitment that makes Dan an integral part of our creative ensemble.

Roger Hayne

Roger, a seasoned professional specializing in the art of editing and producing. His craft spans a diverse spectrum including commercials, promotional videos, instructional content, the creation of engaging long-form sales materials, and avant-garde filmmaking.
Currently based in California, he has worked with a wide range of organizations, including brands, non-profits, PR firms, advertising agencies, publishing houses, and boutique production companies.

Dionne van den Berg

Dionne is one of our east coast editors, she is a queer Dutch-Surinamese filmmaker based in NYC. Dionne’s passion for the arts started at an early age, with taking dance and piano classes at the age of 5. In 2015, Dionne moved from Amsterdam to New York to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and upon graduation, founded the production company Fountain Avenue Productions. With Fountain, Dionne has produced, wrote, starred in, and edited multiple short films and web series, including Amsterdam Ave. and her latest project Q Train.

Tia Tuenge

A cornerstone of the J-Cut team since 2010, Tia is the driving force behind the scenes. Her multifaceted role encompasses critical aspects of our operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), and Human Resources (HR).
Her commitment to our team's well-being and professional development is evident in her tireless work to cultivate a positive and nurturing work environment.

Tia's contributions extend far beyond the numbers, making her an invaluable asset to the J-Cut family, ensuring our continued success.

George 

George is the office cheerleader and emotional support dog. He can be found lounging around, going for walks, and working as a model on important jobs. He is beloved by everyone.
